IBADAN, Nigeria (VOICE of NAIJA)- Bandits negotiator, Alhaji Tukur Mamu, has reportedly been arrested in Cairo, the capital of Egypt.

Tukur Mamu, is a publisher of Kaduna-based Desert Herald and media consultant to controversial Islamic cleric, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi.

He has been a negotiator between bandits and the families of abducted passengers of the Abuja-Kaduna train.

Gunmen had, on 28 March, blown up the rail track, killing 14 and abducting scores of passengers, a situation that called for serious concern about the safety of the nation’s train service.

Worried about the situation, the Nigeria Railway Corporation (NRC) temporarily suspended activities, with President Muhammadu Buhari directing security agencies to rescue the victims.

Last month, Mamu who has been negotiating the victims’ release announced his withdrawal as a negotiator.

He said he did that due to threats to his life, personal integrity and lack of support from the Federal Government.

Tukur Mamu has now been arrested alongside his family members on his way to Saudi Arabia for lesser Hajj.

He was detained at the Cairo International Airport for 24 hours and is being repatriated to Nigeria.
