IBADAN, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)- Edo State Police Command recovered weapons after raiding the coastline and some maritime settlements in the state.

Eight different kinds of arms and ammunition with other incriminating items were recovered during the operation.

The command said the raid was in continuation of the ongoing onslaught on criminal hideouts and cultist enclaves in the state. No one was arrested.

This is contained in a statement by the Command’s Deputy spokesperson, ASP Jennifer U. Iwegbu, which was posted on the Command’s official Twitter handle, @EdoPoliceNG.

The police spokesperson said the raid which took place around 4.20 pm on August 26, 2022, was a sequel to the arrest of one Lawrence Yambo and his gang. Yambo and his gang have allegedly been terrorising Okomu riverine community in the Ovia South-West local government area of the state.

Following their arrests, the police commissioner, CP Abutu Yaro, directed an intensive raid of the community.

“Operatives of the command attached to the Command’s intelligence and Rapid Response Squad, the Command’s crack team and the Marine Police of the command mobilized and swung into action. On arrival at the community, the other miscreants terrorising the community on sighting the operatives took to their heels into Agbede forest in Ovia south-west Local Government Area of Edo state, abandoning their loots,” he said.

The statement added, “On the Spot house to house search conducted within the community led to the recovery of the following items; 2 AK-49 rifles; 1 AK -47 rifle; 2 locally made revolver single barrel; one locally made single barrel; one locally made double barrel; one locally made cut-to-size barrel; 128 pieces of AA cartridges; 12 pieces of 9mm ammunition; 2 telephone handsets; 2 army shirts; 2 high-pressure gas cylinders and bag of charms.”

The police spokesman said the commissioner applauded the professionalism of the men in leading the onslaught and assured the residents that the command would not rest on its oars until criminal elements were gotten rid of.
