Chelsea and Leicester City are now on the verge of reaching full agreement for Wesley Fofana, according to reports.
According to football pundit, Fabrizio Romano, a new bid was submitted on Friday following “Chelsea plan” on Thursday.
Romano tweeted, “Chelsea and Leicester are now on the verge of reaching full agreement for Wesley Fofana, confirmed as @FabriceHawkins reported. Final details then here we go. 🚨🔵 #CFC
New bid submitted today following Chelsea plan called on Thursday.
Personal terms agreed weeks ago.”
In another tweet, Romano said, “Wesley Fofana has been key for this move – he only wanted to follow his dream and join Chelsea. It’s finally set to be completed with Leicester after official bid submitted in the afternoon. 🚨🔵 #CFC
Fofana will sign with Chelsea until June 2028, six year deal.”
The transfer deadline has crept up and is just around the corner, leaving Chelsea with just over one week to get all of their business over the line and concluded.
The Blues have already made a number of additions, with Raheem Sterling, Kalidou Koulibaly and Marc Cucurella all joining the first-team fold.
Young trio Gabriel Slonina, Carney Chukwuemeka and Cesare Casadei have all joined too, with a view to building a promising future at the club.
Despite that business being done already, it seems as though there’s plenty more to come over the remaining week of transfer action.
There were reports that Leicester rejected a third bid for defender Wesley Fofana from Chelsea worth £70m in total.
Chelsea’s latest offer was believed to be £60m with a possible £10m in add-ons – but the fee was unlikely to hit the full £70m total because the additional fees have been described to Sky Sports News as “ambitious” targets.
Fofana wants to move to Stamford Bridge this summer and speaking after Leicester’s penalty shoot-out victory at Stockport in the EFL Cup, Brendan Rodgers confirmed Fofana was training with the club’s U23s after failing to turn up to a training session last week.
The centre-back was left out of Leicester’s defeat to Southampton last weekend because Rodgers said his mind was not in the right place.
“In terms of Wesley, just a young player who is not quite in the right frame of mind at the moment to play,” Rodgers said after the 2-1 loss on Saturday.
“A lot going on behind the scenes, which I understand. It’s a difficult moment for him.
“He’s a good kid, he’s been great for us whilst he’s been here and at this moment it’s a difficult one for him. You can’t afford that, certainly playing a Premier League game if you’re not 100 per cent fully focused.”
