Chinese police reportedly assaulted and detained a BBC journalist identified as Ed Lawrence, for covering an anti-government lockdown protest in Shanghai, on Sunday, 27 November. Shanghai is one of the Chinese cities that have seen protests over stringent Covid restrictions. Members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), the University of Ibadan (UI) branch on Monday protested what they described as “merciless treatment” of university lecturers by the Federal Government.
