ENUGU, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)-The House of Representatives Committee on University Education visited the University of Abuja (UniAbuja) and urged the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) to end their ongoing strike.
The committee’s chairman, Abubakar Fulata, in an interview with journalists shortly after the visit in Abuja, explained that the appeal was necessary to prevent disruptions to the academic calendar.
The visit was in line with the committee’s constitutional oversight functions to ensure compliance with the Appropriation Act.

Fulata advised the university management to utilize funds judiciously and seek alternative funding sources beyond government reliance.
The outgoing Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Abdul-Rasheed Na’Allah, appreciated the lawmakers’ intervention and commended their efforts in removing universities from the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS), streamlining processes like salary payments and appointments.
“The removal of universities from IPPIS helped us from going to the Head of Service of the Federation and several MDAs before carrying out our functions like salary payment, appointments, and promotion among others,” he said.
