LAGOS, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)- Aminu Ado Bayero, the 15th Emir of Kano, has arrived the ancient city.
In the early hours of Saturday, Ado Bayero returned to Kano to a crowd of supporters.
The former Emir, dressed in royal regalia, did not respond to the crowd. He later observed Subhi (dawn prayer) at the airport.
Bayero was dethroned as Emir on Thursday after the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP)-controlled house repealed a 2019 emirate law that was used to oust Muhammadu Sanusi in 2020.
The governor had signed the Kano State Emirates Council (Amendment number 2) Bill, 2024, passed by the state House Assembly into law, effectively repealing a previous law signed by the then Governor Abdullahi Ganduje on December 5, 2019.

That law had split the emirates into five, appointed Emirs for each, and deposed the 14th Emir of Kano, Sanusi Muhammed Sanusi II.
Upon signing the repealed Kano Emirates Council Law, Yusuf gave all the affected Emirs 48 hours to vacate their palaces and hand over to the Commissioner of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs. He then announced the reinstatement of Alhaji Sanusi as the 16th Emir of Kano.
Sanusi was reinstated as Emir on Friday by Abba Yusuf, Kano governor, at a colourful ceremony in government house.
The governor said, “By the powers conferred on me by the Kano Emirate Council Law of 1984 and 2024, and supported by the recommendation of the kingmakers, I have the singular pleasure of confirming the reappointment of Muhammadu Sanusi II as the Emir of Kano and the head of the Kano Emirate Council.”
Bayero had reportedly been in Ogun state since the events that led to his ousting gained a frenetic pace this week.
