ENUGU, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA) – Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State has stirred controversy by nominating Lloyd Ekweremadu, son of the imprisoned former Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, as one of the 15 commissioners in the State.
The appointment comes in the wake of Ike Ekweremadu’s conviction, along with his wife, Beatrice, and their doctor, Obinna Obeta, for organ trafficking and violating the Modern Slavery Act in a UK court.
Governor Mbah also nominated Ada Chukwu, daughter of ex-Governor Sullivan Chime, among the list of commissioner nominees presented on the floor of the House by Speaker Uche Ugwu on Friday.
In a letter accompanying the list, the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Chidiebere Onyia, urged the House to promptly consider the nominees, although he hinted that the list might not be exhaustive.
The other nominees include veteran broadcaster Aka Eze Aka, Prof. Ndubueze Mba, Mrs. Ngozi Eni, Prof. Sam Ugwu, Chika Ugwoke, and Dr. Kingsley Ude, among others.
