LAGOS, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA) – A young man identified as Brown Cletus has been arraigned before a Kado Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja for allegedly stealing a N70,000 phone.
The Punch reports that two counts of criminal breach of trust and cheating were brought against the defendant.
The prosecution counsel, Stanley Nwafoaku, told the court that the matter was reported at Utako Police Station by the complainant, Sandra Meshack, of Utako village, Abuja, on 31 Dec, 2022.
Nwafoaku further alleged that the defendant contacted the complainant on the same date in Utako village, to ask for her assistance using her phone to make an urgent call.
The prosecutor added that the defendant ran off with the complainant’s Tecno phone, which was worth N70,000, when she gave it to the defendant.
He added that when the defendant was later arrested, every effort to recover the phone proved abortive.
According to him, the offence contravened Sections 312 and 322 of the Penal Code.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The defendant was granted bail in the amount of N50,000 and a surety in the same amount by the judge, Muhammed Wakili.
Justice Wakili directed that the surety must provide a passport photograph, any valid means of identification and a Bank Verification Number printout from his bank.
Wakili also adjourned the hearing on the case until 23 March.
