LAGOS, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)- The Lagos State Police Command has arrested seven suspects in connection to the killing of Toyin Adeniji, a chieftain of the National Union of the Road Transport Workers (NURTW) in Agege area of Lagos State.
Late Adeniji who was a foster son of the former Minister of Communication and former Deputy National Chairman, South/West zone of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Mr. Dapo Sarumi, was murdered on 15 February, opposite Sarumi’s residence in Oyewole street, Agege.
It was gathered that the suspects shot Adeniji to death while six other persons, who were at the scene, narrowly escaped death as the suspects shot sporadically during the operation.
His aides accused some cultists/ thugs in the area of the killing. One of them speaking on the condition of anonymity said: “He was shot at about 9pm on Monday. Before then, there was a shoot-out at Oyewole road by some political thugs.”
However, a resident of the area, who pleaded anonymity, claimed the victim was killed during a rift involving transport workers in the area.
The State Police Public Relations, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, in his reaction to the development when contacted, said seven suspects had been arrested in connection with the death of the 47-year-old.
He said: “Yes, one Toyin Adeniji, was shot dead on Monday. The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigations Department and seven suspects have been arrested and are currently being investigated.”
