The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission has released popular musician, Daniel Oladapo aka D’banj.
D’banj’s lawyer, Pelumi Olajengbesi, shared photos of the singer in a car on his Facebook page on Friday, 9 December, after the release.
He wrote: “D’banj released on self recognizance after ICPC could not find anything incriminating on him. He is clean. It is an embarrassment to the entire country that such a huge allegation of 900m Naira without any evidence, yet made public unconfirmed.
“The Chairman and entire officers of ICPC must be deeply sad and embarrassed also that their decent organisation was used for such shameful publicity against an innocent man.”
Voiceofnaija.ng had reported on 7 December, that the award-winning singer was arrested and detained by the ICPC over fraudulent allegations.
The award-winning pop star, was accused of fraudulently diverting hundreds of naira earmarked by the Nigerian government for N-Power project.
N-Power is an empowerment programme set up by the Nigerian government in 2016 to address youth unemployment and increase social development.
Investigators alleged that D’banj colluded with some compromised government officials to introduce ghost beneficiaries into the payroll of the scheme.
The stipend paid to those beneficiaries are then paid to accounts that have now allegedly been linked to the pop star.
The musician was arrested and detained on Tuesday after ICPC operatives closed in on him, forcing him to surrender himself at the agency’s headquarters in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital, sources familiar with the matter said.
