ENUGU, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)- Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), has expressed concern over the congestion of Lagos seaport, despite many other deep ports across the nation.
He said the congestion of the Lagos ports has created avoidable bottlenecks in the maritime sector when it comes to imports and exports.
Obi, the former Anambra State Governor raised the concern in a post on his social media handle on Wednesday.
He wrote: “The Nigeria maritime sector is robust and ought to grow stronger. We are blessed with several deep seaports. However, for some inexplicable reason, we tend to cluster our import and export activities around the Lagos ports, thus creating avoidable bottlenecks.”
In his recommendation, Obi said: “We should decongest Lagos ports via a deliberate policy of incentivizing end-destination priorities.”
According to him, this would “curtail on-land heavy haulage transshipments that take a toll on our road infrastructure.”
