IBADAN, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA) – A Twitter user, Lola Okunrin, has narrated a horrible experience on a boat ride from Victoria Island to Ikorodu, Lagos State.
He wrote: “So i entered trenches boat again today from VI to Ikorodu. God, God God, Haaa. I fear God today.
“Before we left VI, we all noticed the boat wasn’t good but the werey captain wanted to manage it. How dare you manage boat on water? Is it danfo? E ma gba mi ke.
“It took him several minutes to start the boat and all our complains fell on deaf ears. “Alaye, transfer us into another one since we are still at VI”. Iro nio, bobo no hear.
“He eventually started and set sail. Na so boat stop, no start again in the middle of water. Akoshibero.
“We started begging this werey to transfer us into another bus. Imagine begging on top water and someone is doing agidi. I understand agidi on land but which one is Agidi ori omi?
“Booda Taju, sholoshi niyin ni?
“He kept fighting with the boat like he must sail sha. Na by force? Oya we no go again but we can’t come down out of anger. Tani mo se?
“Last last, other boats came to meet us. They transferred us like it’s danfo. Today, I saw my life flash and to crown it all, I saw greed.”
A tweep, @ojaysamuel1, replied: “No fear bro. Na normal thing. They have a target and revenue they make for each trip not considering if the boat would break down. And if they trans load you guys baba don lose money be that. So he tries his best to fix the boat and if not then he can accept his loss.
“But thanks to Lagos water authorities they donāt play with passengers in those dead boats. They even fine captains refusing to move passengers to another boat.”
But @ballchanic would have none of that, replying with: “No fear bawo? How are you normalizing something that could have killed him?”
@dayniyee also shared a similar experience: “Na today??!! Did that route 2012 thru 2017.. wetin my eye no see??
“Fuel don finish for middle of water where no network and for night.. Storm don divert us go 3rd mainland
“Awako don stop for middle of water change price. Passenger don fight over different interpretation of gps”
Similarly, another tweep, Iyabo said: “The first and only time I boarded the boat was last week from Ikorodu to Lekki. It’s not something I want to experience again. It was so rocky and bumpy that I felt my head was gonna fall off my body. I had a headache after it.”
Tenny.hola also shared her own experience. According to her: “I expressed stuff like this, it was even a whole family. I myself and my cousins sisters we went to the beach takwa bay and on our way coming back in the evening time.. naso this ferry stop what happen naso bobo say fuel don finish. File finish khe, we con Dey beg this man.
“werey man to buy fuel from other boat he still Dey price am I cry my eyes out that not funny thou could die that day coz saw another speeding boat coming our way.. Just I believe that day if it was our death time we would die that inside water but Allahmdullahi did not happen.”
