ENUGU, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)- Lagos State House of Assembly member Desmond Elliot has apologised to President Bola Tinubu’s Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, following the political disagreement that strained their relationship.
In a video circulating on social media, Elliot is seen kneeling before Gbajabiamila and asking for forgiveness over his conduct during the political crisis that followed the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary.
“I don’t have any excuse. I have nothing to say other than that I am deeply sorry, sir. In our culture, we prostrate,” Elliot said.
The apology comes months after Elliot’s involvement in the 2025 crisis that led to the removal of Mudashiru Obasa as Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly became a major point of disagreement between the lawmaker and Gbajabiamila.
Obasa was removed after lawmakers accused him of gross misconduct and abuse of office, with his then-deputy, Mojisola Meranda, subsequently emerging as the first female Speaker of the assembly.

Meranda, however, spent 49 days in the position before stepping down, after which Obasa returned to the speakership following intervention by Tinubu.
According to TheCable, Elliot had previously apologised to Gbajabiamila over his role in the attempt to remove Obasa, explaining that he had believed the move was backed by the President.
The disagreement later spilled into the APC primary process, with Gbajabiamila backing Odunuga-Bakare against Elliot, who was seeking another term in the Lagos Assembly.
Elliot nevertheless went ahead with his bid but eventually lost the election.
Following the result, the lawmaker rejected the outcome, alleging that his supporters had been intimidated and suppressed during the election. He also indicated that he would challenge the result.
The latest apology signals another attempt by Elliot to mend his relationship with Gbajabiamila after the political dispute that affected his bid for a fourth term in the Lagos State House of Assembly.
