LAGOS, Nigeria(VOICE OF NAIJA)- Afrobeat musician Seun Kuti stated that Nigerians habit of giving money to street beggars is preventing the anger he believes could trigger a revolution in the country.

In an interview with ObjecTV, Kuti said they are not hungry enough to demand and achieve meaningful change.

According to the musician, regular financial assistance from members of the public makes it easier for people living on the streets to cope with hardship.

He argued that this reduces the level of anger he believes would be necessary to drive a revolution.

“The beggars are the ones who are supposed to be angry in order to cause revolution, but since we give them money from time to time, they are not hungry enough to be angry,” he said bluntly.

Kuti has consistently spoken in favour of a revolution in Nigeria and has criticized the country’s political leadership.

The musician has repeatedly described the political class as corrupt while calling for major changes to the way the country is governed.
