LAGOS, Nigeria(VOICE OF NAIJA)- Afrobeats singer Fireboy DML has reflected on his early days in Lagos, joking that the city once terrified him so much that he now sees himself as one of the “scary people.”

The singer shared the memory of his first experience of Lagos during a recent livestream, where he spoke about adjusting to life in the bustling city.

The “Playboy” hitmaker revealed that he relocated to Lagos in 2016 to pursue his music career and settled in the Surulere area.

He recalled how he initially struggled to understand the environment around him, saying he was frightened by some of the people he met.

“I was so scared the first time I came to Lagos in 2016, in Surulere. People’s eyes were so red, and they looked scary,” Fireboy DML said.

The singer said his fears grew within his first few weeks in the city after witnessing disturbing scenes.

“In two weeks, I saw someone run mad, dead bodies and cultists,” he recalled.

Fireboy also admitted that the appearance and behaviour of some Lagos residents contributed to his early fears.

Despite the experience, he chose to stay put and pursue his musical ambitions. Over time, the singer said he gradually adapted to the city and its lifestyle.

Reflecting on how much he has changed since then, Fireboy joked that he has now become part of the environment and “Now, I also look like those scary people.”
