LAGOS, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA) – Xabi Alonso’s Chelsea survived several nail-biting moments at Stamford Bridge on Saturday, September 12 when they drew 2-2 to newly promoted Hull City in the English Premier League.
Morgan Rogers opened the scoring for Chelseas in their first meeting with the Tigers since January 2017 with a driven shot fired at the near post.
The former Aston Villa man received the ball from August player of the month Joao Pedro before rifling home the ball with just seven minutes on the clock.
Mohamed Belloumi equalized for the Tigers in the 28th minute after a defensive error.
Jorrel Hato misjudged the flight of Ryan Giles cross which in turn allowed Belloumi time to hit a volley past Chelsea goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez.
The goal meant that the Blues failed to keep a clean sheet in their last 20 EPL games.
Six minutes later, Belloumi added his second of the afternoon from a corner kick.
His strike settled into the bottom corner following a deflection from Levi Colwill.
The first half ended 2-1 in favour of the visitors, but Joao Pedro eventually drew the Club World Cup Champions level in the second half to end the tie 2-2.
