LAGOS, Nigeria(VOICE OF NAIJA)- Music producer Femi Dapson has opened up about the bold decision that changed the course of his career after he left a comfortable job at Winners Church for a life of uncertainty in Lagos.
Speaking with Chude Jideonwo, Dapson recalled how he walked away from a high-level position at the church, where he worked closely with Pastor David Oyedepo and enjoyed access to a lifestyle many would consider enviable.
According to the producer, the job allowed him to wear suits and ties, meet presidents and operate in a privileged environment.
However, he feared becoming too comfortable and decided to leave in search of greater financial independence.
Dapson said he knew he needed to build something of his own rather than remain satisfied with the comfort his position provided.

“I quit my job at Winners Church, where I worked closely with Pastor Oyedepo, wore suits and ties, and met presidents,” he said.
Explaining his decision, the music producer said he had to remind himself not to get carried away by the privileges that came with the job.
“I felt too comfortable, so I moved to Lagos and started working as a cleaner,” Dapson recalled.
After moving to Lagos, he first took up a cleaning job before spotting an opening for another position in a newspaper.
Dapson said he applied for the job and was surprised to find several degree holders competing for the same opportunity when he arrived for the interview.
“There were people with BScs there, bro. I kid you not,” he revealed.

Despite the intimidating competition, Dapson said his previous experience and confidence helped him stand out during the interview.
“When I entered there, as I said, I know how to make mouth,” he said, explaining how he confidently presented his skills and convinced the employers that he could deliver.
Dapson explained that he sold the interviewers his ability to make their work easier by drawing from the experience he had gained at Winners Church.
“I sold them dreams, and they were so excited,” he said, adding that the strategy paid off, and he eventually secured the position and began work as a junior editor.
Today, Dapson has established himself as one of Nigeria’s sought-after music video producers, working on visuals for some of the biggest names in Afrobeats, including Rema, Burna Boy, Davido, Asake, Kizz Daniel, Omah Lay, Ayra Starr and Shallipopi.
Dapson’s rise has also come with major industry recognition. His work on “Calm Down” earned a Headies Award for Best Music Video in 2023, further cementing his reputation as a leading name in Nigeria’s music-video production space.
