LAGOS, Nigeria(VOICE OF NAIJA)- Veteran Nollywood actress Omotunde Ogundimu has received a major show of support from Funke Akindele after publicly appealing for help with her cervical cancer treatment.
Ogundimu, who recently opened up about her health struggle, revealed that she woke up to a call from Akindele, who prayed with her before sending her a large sum of money towards her cancer treatment.
The veteran actress shared the update on social media, expressing surprise at receiving the call and thanking Akindele for coming through for her at a difficult time.
“The first call I got this morning was from Funke,” Ogundimu wrote, noting that she had not expected to hear from the actress.
She went on to thank Akindele for the financial assistance, asking her followers to pray for the filmmaker.

“Please help me pray for Funke Akindele for blessing me this morning towards my cancer treatment; she gave me a huge amount of money,” she said.
Ogundimu’s appeal comes after she opened up about the severity of her condition during an emotional interview with actress Biola Adebayo on the Talk to B podcast.
The actress disclosed that she was diagnosed with cervical cancer in 2024 after undergoing medical tests.

She described the illness as extremely painful and said the cost of treatment had become increasingly difficult for her family to bear.
“I’m going through severe pain. I was diagnosed with cervical cancer,” she said at the time, adding that she had initially struggled with the idea of seeking help publicly.
According to Ogundimu, her three children have been using their income to support her treatment, leaving them with little room to cater to their own needs.
She also revealed that she had reached out to several people and received assistance from some of them, but the financial pressure remained.
The actress eventually appealed to Nigerians for help, saying she had no other option if she wanted to continue treatment.
The actress, who is a widow and mother of three, also used the emotional interview with Biola to ask anyone she may have offended in the industry for forgiveness.
She disclosed that after spending about 35 years in Nollywood, she contacted colleagues for movie roles but did not receive the opportunities she hoped for.
For Ogundimu, however, Akindele’s gesture has provided a moment of relief in what has been a painful period.
The actress responded with prayers for the filmmaker, asking God to continue to strengthen and uplift her.
“Iya Ibeji, God will never forsake you, Laila. You will forever continue to grow from strength to strength,” Ogundimu wrote.
