LAGOS, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA) – Nigeria’s Falconets produced a determined display to secure a vital point in a goalless draw against China in their second group match of the FIFA U20 Women World Cup responding impressively after their opening defeat to Spain and keeping their chances of reaching the knockout stage intact.
The match demanded discipline, and Nigeria delivered it, defending with structure and intensity to frustrate a China side that had scored five goals in their previous outing.
China entered the contest full of confidence after dismantling New Caledonia, but Nigeria refused to allow similar freedom or space.
Huang Jiaxin, who scored a hat‑trick in China’s opener, found fewer opportunities as Nigeria tightened their defensive lines.
Chen Ruilin, creator of four assists in China’s first match, also struggled to influence proceedings against Nigeria’s organised midfield.
The Falconets, under pressure after losing 2–0 to Spain, showed improved composure and tactical awareness throughout the encounter.
Their defensive resilience ensured China could not replicate the attacking fluency that defined their opening‑day performance in Group F.
The draw lifts Nigeria to one point, keeping them in contention despite remaining third behind China and Spain.
New Caledonia remain bottom, meaning Nigeria’s final group match against them could determine their qualification fate.

Head coach Moses Aduku praised the team’s response, noting the significant improvement from their opening‑day defeat.
The Falconets’ performance reflected greater confidence, sharper organisation and a renewed determination to stay alive in the tournament.
Nigeria and China have a competitive history at this level, including a 1–1 draw in 2018 and China’s 3–0 win in 2006.
This latest meeting adds another chapter, with Nigeria showing they can match one of the group’s strongest sides.
Attention now shifts to September 13, when Nigeria face New Caledonia in a decisive fixture for progression.
Victory in that match could propel the Falconets into the knockout stage, keeping their World Cup journey alive.
