LAGOS, Nigeria(VOICE OF NAIJA)- Nigerian singer Adekunle Gold has revealed that genotype compatibility was one of the first things he and his wife, Simi, considered before tying the knot.
Speaking in a recent interview, the singer said being in love was not enough to make him proceed with the marriage if their genotypes could put their future children at risk.
According to Adekunle Gold, he and Simi made genotype testing an early priority when their relationship became serious.
“I wouldn’t have married my wife Simi if she were SS or AS,” he said.

He explained that they first wanted to establish whether their genotypes were compatible before taking the relationship further.
“When we met, the first thing we did was to know our genotype, if we match. Forget love. It makes no sense,” the singer added.

Adekunle Gold also urged couples to think beyond their feelings when making decisions about marriage and having children.
He questioned the wisdom of knowingly having children when there could be a significant risk of inherited blood disorders, stressing that prospective parents should consider their children’s future health.

“That’s why some of us are here. Because you’re about to bring a child into the world and then they’re about to be sickly. What is the point?” the singer asked.
He then disclosed that he is SC while Simi is AA, describing their combination as compatible.
“She’s AA while I’m SC, so we’re good,” he added.
Adekunle Gold maintained that it is important for couples to check their genotype early, particularly before marriage and pregnancy.
The singer married Simi in 2019, and the couple have two children: a daughter, Adejare “Deja” Kosoko, born in 2020, and a son, Adeifemi Oba Ajani Kosoko, whom they welcomed in March 2026.
