ENUGU, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)- The Charismatic Bishops Conference of Nigeria has declared its support for President Bola Tinubu’s bid for a second term, saying it would continue to back his administration through prayers and advocacy.
The President-General of the conference, Archbishop Leonard Bature Kawas, announced the group’s endorsement on Wednesday at the 2026 synod of the organisation.
Kawas said the conference had resolved to support Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election after assessing his administration, particularly his appointments and what he described as his support for Christians despite contesting the 2023 election on a Muslim-Muslim ticket.
“We are here today to reassure him of our solid support; we are standing with him in prayers and advocacy for the good programmes he has brought forth for the liberation of Nigeria,” Kawas said.
“We stand with the president today, and as long as he’s willing to be our president and even come in 2027, we will still be standing with him.

“On this, this house has endorsed him for the 2027 presidency.”
According to Vanguard, the cleric argued that Tinubu had demonstrated inclusiveness in his appointments and had supported the emergence of Christian governors across the country.
“He did not only appoint at the national level; he also supported the emergence of Christian governors to be the majority in Nigeria. He has stood with Christanity alongside his wife,” he said.
Kawas also commended the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) for appointing a Christian preacher as its national leader, describing the development as significant.
“Also, for the first time, the ruling party appointed a born-again Christian and preacher of the gospel to be the national leader of the party,” he said.

The CBCN leader said the bishops would remain engaged with the administration, offering prayers and advocating policies they believe would contribute to national development.
He further disclosed that Tinubu had responded to the conference’s appeal for him to engage United States President Donald Trump over insecurity in Nigeria.
Beyond the 2027 endorsement, Kawas called on the Federal Government to give religious leaders greater consideration in political appointments.
He urged the government to include both Christian and Muslim religious leaders in appointments, arguing that they should not be left out of the process.
The synod was attended by several dignitaries, including the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, and the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris.
