LAGOS, Nigeria(VOICE OF NAIJA)- Veteran actor Pete Edochie has shared the unusual thinking behind his late uncle’s decision to marry three women, revealing that the man saw polygamy as a way to keep his wives from secretly teaming up against him.
Edochie recounted the family story while speaking with comedian Isbae U on Curiosity Made Me Ask.
The Nollywood actor explained that his uncle did not simply wake up one day and decide to have three wives.
He first married one woman, later added another and eventually took a third wife.
When Edochie questioned the reason behind the growing number of wives, his uncle gave him an answer that left the actor with a memorable family story.
According to Edochie, his uncle believed three wives could serve as a check on one another.
He believed that if two of the women ever decided to plot against him, the third would likely expose the plan.
“He said there was no way they would all conspire against him at the same time,” Edochie recalled.

The actor said his uncle believed that one wife would always break ranks and tell him what the other two had been discussing.
“That when two conspire against him, the other one would come and tell him what they are saying,” the actor added.
Eventually, Edochie said, his uncle felt he had achieved the balance he wanted in his marriage.
“Then he said he’s now comfortable, that he balanced now. He’s fully wifed,” the actor recalled.
The arrangement, however, did not last much longer as his uncle died not long after making the remark.
Despite the amusing logic behind his uncle’s decision, Edochie used the story to make his own position clear.
“Not long after, he passed. I won’t advise a man to take more than one wife,” he said.
