LAGOS, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA) – Nigeria’s U17 boys’ team the Golden Eaglets will begin their quest for a return to continental dominance in Group B of the WAFU B U 17 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers, following the official draw conducted on Thursday, September 3, 2025, inside the press conference room of Stade du 04 Août in Ouagadougou.
The draw places Nigeria alongside Côte d’Ivoire and Niger, forming a competitive three team group from which only the strongest will advance to the knockout phase.
On the other side of the coin, Group A features hosts Burkina Faso, Benin, Ghana, and Togo, setting up a balanced and intriguing qualification landscape ahead of the tournament scheduled for October 10–23.

Nigeria will be returning to the WAFU B U17 Championship after competing in the 2025 edition, where the Golden Eaglets reached the semi-finals before suffering a 2–0 defeat to Ghana.
The result ended their campaign and also saw Nigeria miss out on qualification for the 2026 U17 AFCON.
For Nigeria, the draw comes at a time when the Golden Eaglets have been actively sharpening their edges through a series of international friendlies and a Youth Invitational in China.
The team has spent the past months testing new combinations, improving tactical discipline and building cohesion under pressure.
With the draw now confirmed, head coach Eboboritse Uwejamomere’s attention now shifts fully to the competition, where Nigeria will aim to navigate Group B with authority and secure the ticket to the 2026 U 17 AFCON in Burkina Faso.
