ENUGU, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)- The Education Writers’ Association of Nigeria (EWAN), has invited the Head of the National Office of the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), Dr Amos Dangut, to speak at its September Dialogue on concerns surrounding the 2026 West African Senior School Certificate Examination, (WASSCE).

The virtual dialogue, scheduled for Thursday, September 3, 2026, at 6pm, will focus on the theme, “Addressing Concerns over WASSCE Results, Other Matters.”

In a letter dated August 26, 2026, addressed to Dangut, EWAN said the dialogue was designed to bring education stakeholders and journalists together to examine pressing issues affecting the country’s education sector.

The association said the invitation became necessary against the backdrop of growing public concerns over the conduct and outcome of the 2026 WASSCE, particularly the widespread reaction to candidates’ performance.

It also listed the delay in the release of results for blind candidates and reported technical glitches affecting some candidates among issues requiring clarification from the examination body.

According to EWAN, the situation is particularly concerning for candidates whose tertiary admission processes are already underway.

The association said the dialogue would also provide an opportunity to examine WAEC’s performance over the past two years under the leadership of Dangut, including reforms introduced by the council, challenges encountered and measures being implemented to address emerging concerns.

EWAN said Dangut’s participation would enable WAEC to respond directly to issues raised by candidates, parents and other stakeholders, while clarifying concerns surrounding the latest examination.

The association also wants the WAEC boss to explain measures being taken to resolve outstanding challenges and outline the council’s plans for improving the credibility and efficiency of its examination processes.

The invitation described EWAN as a network of journalists committed to advancing education reportage across Nigeria’s print, broadcast and digital media.

The September Dialogue is part of the association’s efforts to facilitate engagement between education stakeholders and the media on issues affecting the sector.
