LAGOS, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA) – Sudan’s Ambassador to Nigeria, Mohamed Abdel Aal Haroun, has highlighted the longstanding relations between Sudan and Nigeria, noting that the ties predate the independence of both countries.
Haroun said the relationship had evolved from historical interactions into formal diplomatic relations established in 1960.
According to him, the two countries have since developed mechanisms for cooperation across political, economic and cultural spheres.
The ambassador commended Nigeria for its efforts toward restoring peace in Sudan, assuring that his country remained committed to strengthening bilateral cooperation with Nigeria.
He also said Sudan would deepen coordination with Nigeria on regional and international matters.
Speaking on recent developments in Sudan, Haroun accused the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) of committing atrocities against civilians since the conflict began on April 15, 2023.
He said the Sudanese Armed Forces had made gains on several fronts, adding that government institutions and private businesses had resumed operations in Khartoum following improvements in security.
According to the ambassador, millions of people were returning daily to Khartoum, Omdurman and Bahri.
Haroun also dismissed claims by the RSF and its supporters that conditions in the capital were deteriorating, describing such reports as false.
