ENUGU, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)- The Enugu State Police Command has arrested a 23-year-old man, Nnaji Chidiebere, who was allegedly caught vandalising a transformer after he was electrocuted and trapped inside the facility in Obollo-Afor, Udenu Local Government Area of the state.
Chidiebere was found unconscious with varying degrees of burns at about 2:20pm on Monday, August 17, following information from residents who discovered him inside the transformer along Ogbaike Road.
Police operatives attached to the Udenu Division were immediately mobilised to the scene after receiving the report and evacuated the suspect to a nearby hospital.
According to the command, Chidiebere was resuscitated at the hospital before he was referred to a specialist medical facility for further treatment.
In a statement made available by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Daniel Ndukwe on Tuesday, the suspect, upon regaining consciousness, identified himself as Nnaji Chidiebere and claimed he was alone at the scene.

However, the police said preliminary investigation had linked him to alleged transformer vandalism in the area.
The command said further investigation was ongoing to establish the extent of his activities and determine whether he had accomplices.
It added that the suspect would be prosecuted upon the conclusion of the investigation.
The Commissioner of Police, Enugu State Command, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, commended residents who alerted the police, saying their prompt intervention facilitated the rescue and arrest of the suspect.
Giwa reiterated the command’s commitment to protecting critical public infrastructure and urged residents to continue providing timely information about suspicious activities in their communities.
