LAGOS, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA) – Tennis legend, Serena Williams has expressed her joy after playing with elder sister Venus Williams in the Cincinnati Open doubles for the first time in four years.
The siblings lost 6-2, 1-6, 10-8 against Marta Kostyuk and Peyton Stearns, however Serena was thrilled at finally sharing the court again with her sister.
“I thought it was fun, it was special, it was good.
“We were starting to feel it. It was really cool to be able to do this again,” Serena said.
The sisters last played doubles together at the 2022 US Open, Serena’s final tournament before she stepped away from tennis.
44-year-old Serena, returned first in doubles this June before playing singles at Wimbledon as a wildcard entry.
She suffered a knee injury in her first-round loss to Maya Joint, ruling her out of doubles with Venus.

46-year-old Venus Williams also disclosed that she had been looking forward to their reunion.
“We’ve waited a long time to get back on the doubles court. Eventually, we find our way to each other,” Venus stated.
She also talked about how much they supported themselves.
“We give each other so much grace and encouragement. This is our first time playing together in forever, and I think we’re really getting into our stride,” the 46-year-old added.
The sisters started poorly against Ukraine’s Kostyuk and American Stearns before shaking off what Serena called “a little rust.”
They trailed 6-0 in the deciding tie-break but fought back impressively, with Serena producing two service winners.
Despite their rally, Kostyuk and Stearns held firm, sealing victory on a double fault from Venus at match point.
During their time together the Williams sisters won 14 Grand Slam doubles titles and three Olympic gold medals.
