LAGOS, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA) – According to reports by BBC the English Premier League will now share full judgements from its Key Match Incidents (KMI) Panel involving referees and VAR with fans.
The move is part of three new measures aimed at improving transparency around officiating decisions during the 2026–27 season.
Alongside publishing panel rulings, the league will release direct explanations from referees and expand RefCam broadcasts with audio.
The five-member KMI Panel has met since the 2022–23 season, but its detailed assessments were previously kept private.
Clubs often leaked information, yet fans rarely saw the official reasoning behind controversial calls until now.
Every major incident is assessed and voted on, with feedback provided to clubs and match officials for review.
The Premier League believes releasing documents will give supporters full transparency about how decisions are evaluated and explained.

Selected quotes from referees and VAR officials will be published on the Premier League’s Match Centre account on X.
They will also appear on the league’s website and app, offering real-time rationale behind key decisions.
Previously, only general summaries were shared, leaving fans without insight into the thought processes guiding officials’ choices.
Now, referees will describe why they gave decisions, while VARs will explain why they chose not to intervene.
RefCam expansion will allow audio between referees and players to be broadcast, though not live or including VAR discussions.
The Premier League and Pro Ref stress these steps aim to increase transparency while respecting International Football Association Board rules.
International Football Association Board (IFAB) currently refuses to permit live VAR audio broadcasts, but discussions continue about sharing more communication with the public.
This initiative marks a significant step in bridging the gap between officials and fans, ensuring accountability across the league.
