ENUGU, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)- The All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Osun State, Bola Oyebamiji, has endorsed his party’s decision to review the outcome of Saturday’s governorship election, while calling on his supporters to remain calm.
Oyebamiji, who finished second behind incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke of the Accord Party, said he respected the electoral process but fully supported the APC’s decision to examine the outcome of the poll.
In a statement posted on his X account on Tuesday, the former Managing Director of the National Inland Waterways Authority thanked APC members, Osun residents and his supporters for their commitment during the campaign.
“While I respect the decision, I totally support the decision of our party in its ongoing review of the outcome of the election,” Oyebamiji said.
He also urged his supporters to remain peaceful and continue with their normal activities despite the post-election tensions.

The APC candidate, however, expressed concern over what he described as increasing hostility towards members of the party and his supporters.
He alleged that attacks on APC members, which began during the electioneering period, had intensified within 24 hours after the election.
Oyebamiji consequently called on the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies to intervene and prevent further violence.
He thanked those who supported his campaign, saying that although the election had ended, the ideals and issues promoted by the campaign remained relevant.
According to him, the APC would continue to advocate effective, inclusive and rapid development for Osun State.

He urged his supporters to remain engaged, organised and vigilant in the interest of the state.
Adeleke emerged victorious in the keenly contested election after defeating Oyebamiji and candidates of other political parties.
The Accord candidate secured more than 500,000 votes, while Oyebamiji finished second with 444,815 votes. ADC candidate Najeem Salaam placed third with 17,180 votes.
The outcome has, however, continued to generate reactions from political parties and stakeholders, with the APC moving to review the result while other actors have raised questions over aspects of the electoral process.
Oyebamiji’s decision to back the party’s review signals that the APC intends to scrutinise the outcome through its internal processes while awaiting any further decision by the party on the next course of action.
