LAGOS, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA) – Newcastle United have announced the capture of Benfica defender Amar Dedic on a five-year contract for a fee of about £30 million.
Dedic completed his medical on Tyneside on Monday before finalizing his move to the Premier League club where he will reunite with Newcastle manager Matthias Jaissle, who previously coached him at Red Bull Salzburg.
During their time at Salzburg Dedic helped Jaissle win the Austrian title in 2023 before continuing his career in Portugal.
In his interview with the Magpies media team, the defender spoke about the positive atmosphere around the club.
“It’s a special feeling and a really big honour for me to join Newcastle United.
“I’m really happy to be here and can’t wait to start playing for the club and the amazing fans.
“I want to play for them (Newcastle), fight for them and that’s my motivation,” Dedic said.

The former Salzburg man also revealed that the opportunity to work with Jaissle again was a major factor behind his decision to join Newcastle.
“He knows what I can bring on the pitch and I’m really happy to be playing for him again,” he added.
Newcastle moved for Dedic after veteran right-back Kieran Trippier left the club for Wolves on a free transfer.
Dedic has never played in the Premier League and will need to adjust to its physicality and intensity.
However, his previous relationship with Jaissle could help him settle quickly into Newcastle’s tactical system.
