LAGOS, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA) – Coventry City have announced the signing of Nigerian striker Taiwo Awoniyi from Nottingham Forest for a fee in the region of £9m.
Awoniyi arrives to Frank Lampard’s side with a wealth of experience, having scored 21 league goals in 90 appearances for Forest and 23 in 103 across all competitions.
His career began at Liverpool, followed by loan spells in Germany, Belgium, and the Netherlands, before a permanent move to Union Berlin where he enjoyed his most prolific season, netting 20 goals including four in the UEFA Conference League.
That form earned him a record-breaking transfer to Nottingham Forest in 2022. He scored 11 goals in his debut campaign, helping Forest avoid relegation and reach the Carabao Cup semi-finals.
He later played a key role in their seventh-place finish in 2024–25, which secured European qualification.
Speaking after completing his move, Awoniyi said: “I’m very happy to complete my move to Coventry City. I am very excited about this season, and I can’t wait to get started. I’m really looking forward to working with my new teammates.
“I have seen how amazing they have been last season, coming up from the Championship, they were incredible and now I am just excited to join them and get started for the new season,” Awoniyi stated.

Awoniyi, capped 10 times by Nigeria with two international goals, brings leadership and attacking prowess to a Coventry side eager to establish themselves in the Premier League.
