ENUGU, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)- Presidential candidate of the National Democratic Coalition, Peter Obi, has congratulated Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, on his re-election, describing the outcome of Saturday’s governorship election as a victory for democracy.
Obi, in a statement posted on his official X account on Sunday, also commended Osun voters, particularly youths, for what he described as their determination to protect their votes and democratic mandate.
The Independent National Electoral Commission had earlier declared Adeleke of the Accord Party winner of the election after he polled 511,067 votes to defeat his closest challenger, the All Progressives Congress candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, who scored 444,815 votes.
Adeleke won by a margin of 66,252 votes, with the result triggering celebrations among his supporters across the state.
Reacting to the outcome, Obi said the people of Osun had spoken through the ballot and demonstrated that political power ultimately belonged to the electorate.
“I warmly congratulate Governor Ademola Adeleke on his re-election and the good people of Osun State on this important democratic victory,” he said.

The former Anambra State governor particularly praised young people in the state for remaining vigilant during the election and peacefully defending their mandate.
He said the Osun election had reinforced the importance of citizens participating actively in the democratic process and ensuring that their votes count.
According to Obi, the development should serve as a lesson ahead of the 2027 general elections, urging Nigerians to remain informed, participate in elections and protect their votes.
He also called on political parties and their supporters to put the interests of Nigerians above partisan considerations while embracing peace, unity and the rule of law.
Obi warned against turning elections into contests of violence, saying political competition should instead be based on ideas, competence, character and service to the people.
He said the Osun experience should strengthen public confidence in Nigeria’s democratic process and encourage citizens to remain committed to building a more secure, prosperous and people-centred country.
