ENUGU, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)- Officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) have begun sorting and counting ballot papers at Polling Unit 39, Ward 4, in Osogbo Local Government Area of Osun State.
The exercise commenced shortly after voting ended at the polling unit during Saturday’s governorship election.
INEC officials were observed separating the ballot papers according to political parties and candidates before proceeding with the counting of votes.
Vanguard reports that party agents and other stakeholders were also present at the polling unit to monitor the process and observe the announcement of the results.

The sorting and counting represent the next phase of the electoral process following the accreditation of voters and casting of ballots.
After the votes are counted, the polling officials are expected to record the results and transmit them in accordance with the commission’s guidelines.
The Osun governorship election is being contested by candidates from various political parties, including the incumbent Governor, Ademola Adeleke, who is seeking another term in office.
Voting took place across the state’s 30 local government areas amid heightened political activity and increased security deployment.
