LAGOS, Nigeria(VOICE OF NAIJA)- A physically challenged voter in Ejigbo, Osun State, has praised election officials for making the voting process more accessible, allowing her to cast her ballot without facing the challenges of long queues.
The voter, Aminat Akinsola, cast her ballot at Polling Unit 6, Ward 4, stating that officials considered her condition during the accreditation and voting process.
According to her, the arrangement meant she enjoyed ease and did not have to face the difficulties that could come with waiting in a long queue with other voters to participate in the governorship election.
“I’m so happy because I was treated with respect while I was trying to cast my vote. I was even the first person to be accredited,” Akinsola said.
Her experience highlights the importance of making elections accessible to persons with disabilities (PWDs), particularly by providing arrangements that allow voters with physical challenges to participate without unnecessary barriers.

Akinsola also praised the peaceful atmosphere at the polling unit, saying voters were able to exercise their right without disruption.
She expressed hope that the final election result would reflect the choice of the people of Osun State.
Notably, security personnel were deployed around the polling unit to maintain order and help ensure a smooth voting process.
Reports state that officers also assisted in managing the movement of voters as voting progressed.
In addition, young voters were grouped according to gender at the polling unit as part of measures to control the crowd and prevent disorder.
The arrangements came as voters across Osun State turned out to elect their next governor, with the experience of voters like Akinsola highlighting the need for an election process that accommodates everyone, regardless of physical ability.
