LAGOS, Nigeria(VOICE OF NAIJA)- Former Minister of State for Police Affairs, Jelili Adesiyan, has raised concerns over the slow performance of the BVAS at his polling unit in Osun State, saying the delay could affect the speed of voting.
Adesiyan spoke on Saturday after voting at Unit 8, Ward 6, Lagere Idiose, Ode Omu, where he expressed concern about the number of voters still waiting in line.
According to the former minister, the polling unit had nearly 1,000 registered voters, but fewer than 200 people had reportedly voted by after 2pm due to the slow accreditation process.
“The exercise is peaceful here. There have not been any problems, only that the BVAS is very slow,” Adesiyan said.
He explained that the slow process could make it difficult for the large number of voters on the queue to cast their ballots within a reasonable time.

“In this place, we have almost 1,000 people who registered, most of whom are on the queue to vote. Up to now, past 2pm, the number of those who have voted, from the information I gathered, is still under 200,” he said.
Adesiyan also raised concerns about elderly voters at the polling unit, saying some were having difficulty completing the biometric accreditation process.
“There are some of our elderly people who are here. The BVAS is not capturing some of them,” he said.
He called for another Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) machine to be provided at the polling unit to speed up the accreditation process and reduce the waiting time for voters.
Despite the challenges, the former minister expressed confidence that everyone who was already on the queue would be given the opportunity to vote.
