LAGOS, Nigeria(VOICE OF NAIJA)- Nollywood actress Iyabo Ojo has revealed that her experience as a rape survivor shaped the way she protects her daughter, Priscilla, particularly when it comes to her safety outside the home.
The actress shared the personal reason behind her parenting approach while reflecting on the period when Priscilla gained admission to university.
According to Iyabo, her daughter eventually noticed how closely she was being monitored and questioned whether the actress trusted her.
“I’m overprotective of my daughter, Priscilla. When she went to university, she asked, ‘Mum, don’t you trust me?’” Iyabo said.
Responding to Priscilla, the actress said she assured her that she trusted her but remained cautious about the people around her because of her past experiences.
The actress explained that she would require Priscilla to contact her before leaving school and ensure that a member of staff accompanied her.

“I make sure she calls me before leaving school and has a staff member with her,” she added.
Iyabo further explained that her strict approach was not necessarily about doubting her daughter but about protecting her from situations she had personally experienced.
“I never leave her with a man because I’m a rape survivor,” the actress revealed.
She disclosed that her past trauma influenced the way she approach safety, outside relationships and situations involving her daughter.
