LAGOS, Nigeria(VOICE OF NAIJA)- Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has alleged that soldiers were attempting to prevent him from entering Osun State ahead of the governorship election scheduled for today, Saturday, August 15, prompting a response from former presidential aide Bashir Ahmad.
The singer made the claim in a post on his verified X account in the early hours of Saturday, August 15, as security measures for the election restricted movement across the state.
Davido, who is a nephew of incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke, has been actively campaigning for his uncle nicknamed Imole, who is seeking re-election under the platform of the Accord Party.
“I’ve been reliably informed that soldiers are trying to prevent me from entering Osun tomorrow, this won’t happen, every citizen of Nigeria has the right to movement at any point of time,” Davido wrote.
The allegation came after the Nigeria Police Force announced movement restrictions across Osun State as part of security arrangements for the election.
Movement in the state was restricted from midnight on Friday until 6pm on Saturday, covering the voting period.

Reacting to Davido’s claim, former presidential media aide Bashir Ahmad dismissed the singer’s reaction as “dramatic”, noting that the restriction had already been announced as a general security measure.
“You are just dramatic, @davido,” Ahmad wrote.
He further explained that restricting movement during elections was a standard security practice and was not unique to Osun State.
The election is being contested by Governor Adeleke and several other candidates, including the All Progressives Congress candidate, Bola Oyebamiji.
Still, Davido urged voters to remain at their polling units after casting their ballots to ensure their votes are properly counted and uploaded.
“Don’t leave your polling unit until it’s being uploaded on the IREV, protect your vote now. Imole All the way,” he added.
The development comes as security agencies tighten movement across Osun State to maintain order during the governorship election.
