LAGOS, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA) – With four days to go till the start of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Super Six Pre-Season tournament, four NPFL clubs preparing for continental campaigns are gearing up to use the friendlies scheduled to take place in Jos from August 18 to 23, 2026 as an opportunity to improve fitness ahead of continental ambitions.
The competition, billed as a major warm-up event, will feature Rangers International, Rivers United, Shooting Stars (3SC), and El-Kanemi Warriors, alongside Plateau United and Mighty Jets who join as wildcard entries.
The New Jos Stadium will host the six-day football spectacle, designed to sharpen match fitness and provide coaches with a platform to assess their squads ahead of the 2026/27 NPFL season, which kicks off August 28–30.

For the continental-bound clubs, the tournament offers a crucial opportunity to test new signings and tactical systems against strong domestic opposition.
Current NPFL champions Rangers International and Rivers United, will be looking to fine-tune their preparations for the CAF Champions League. Shooting Stars and El-Kanemi Warriors, meanwhile, will aim to build momentum before embarking on their CAF Confederation Cup journeys.
The inclusion of Plateau United and Mighty Jets adds a local flavor, ensuring Jos fans witness their hometown sides compete against some of Nigeria’s most established teams.
Beyond fitness and preparation, the tournament is also expected to boost local football culture, drawing fans from across Plateau State to support their clubs and celebrate the return of top-tier football action.
