ABUJA, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)-Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, on Friday urged residents of the state to turn out for the governorship election, cast their ballots and protect their votes in the interest of democracy.

A statement by the governor’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, said Adeleke made the call during separate visits to the palaces of the Ajalaye of Ipetu-Ijesha and the Elegboro of Ijebu-Jesa.

The governor visited the traditional rulers to canvass support for his re-election, accompanied by his cousin and Afrobeats star, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido.

Adeleke, who was also accompanied by leaders of the Imole Campaign Council, urged voters across Osun to show courage and determination in exercising their constitutional right to vote, stressing that “no force can deny Osun voters their democratic rights.”

Echoing Davido’s call for residents to vote and defend their votes, Adeleke said free and fair elections remained the inalienable rights of the people of Osun, adding that “they are ready to protect and affirm those rights on August 15th”

At the palace of the Ajalaye of Ipetu-Ijesha, Oba Adeleke Oke, the monarch commended the governor for what he described as his remarkable achievements in the last four years.

Oba Oke also assured the Accord team of the support of his people ahead of the August 15 election.

While receiving the governor, the monarch hosted a victory prayer session, during which interfaith prayers were offered for the success of Accord over its opposition.

“You will win the second term and you will deliver even more than you have done in your first term. My people are eager to continue to be part of a good turn of events in the state,” the royal father said.

Speaking at campaign rallies in Ipetu-Ijesha and Ijebu-Jesa, Adeleke expressed confidence in his victory and urged supporters to intensify mobilisation efforts for continuity.

“Your security is assured. Your safety is guaranteed. Mobilise your relatives and friends. Vote for good governance and more dividends of democracy.

“Ijesa people, Osun people cannot be scared. We are people of courage. Vote and defend your votes”, the governor told his supporters at both Ipetu-Ijesha and Ijebu-Jesa.
