LAGOS, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA) – The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced a 100% increase in prize money for the winners of the 2026 Women Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) tournament scheduled to kick off in Morocco from Saturday, July 25.

The increased prize money was announced on Wednesday, July 22 by Confederation of African Football (CAF) President Patrice Motsepe during the CAF Global Conference held in Johannesburg, South Africa.

The $2 million represents a 100% increase from the previous cash prize of a million dollars.

The Prize Money of the Runner-up has also been increased by 50% to $750,000 while the bronze medalists will also receive a 43% increase.

CAF also disclosed that the 16 participating national teams will receive $150,000 each in participation funding, portraying an increment of $25,000 (20%) from the USD 125,000 received in the previous edition.

The new rewards represent a significant boost in CAF’s investment in women’s football and also serve as an additional source motivation for the participating teams.

Meanwhile, the Super Falcons head into the tournament as one of the favourites, having won the previous edition staged in Morocco.

If the 10-time champions manage to successfully defend the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco, the $2 million dollars is theirs for the taking.
