LAGOS, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA) – The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has announced the departure of Nigeria U-20 men’s team, the Flying Eagles to Cote D’Ivoire ahead of the 2026 WAFU B U-20 Championship scheduled to hold from Sunday, July 26 to Sunday, August 9, Voice of Naija – VONa Communications reports.
Their departure was announced on the official X account of the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) this Monday.
“The Flying Eagles are on their way to Abidjan for the WAFU B tournament.
“Let’s soar boys!!” NFF wrote on X.
The Nigeria U-20 national team will be among the teams competing for honours at the regional tournament.
The tournament will feature hosts Côte d’Ivoire alongside Ghana, Burkina Faso, Togo, Benin Republic, and Niger Republic.
The championship serves as the qualification pathway for the 2027 U-20 Africa Cup of Nations to be hosted by Ghana.
The Flying Eagles led by head coach Abdu Maikaba have been preparing extensively for the competition.
The record seven-time winners of the U-20 AFCON, aim to secure a strong outing and book Nigeria’s place at the continental showpiece.
Before their departure, Super Eagles icon Ahmed Musa also donated 20 Million naira to motivate the talented youngsters.
Nigeria will be hoping to use the WAFU B tournament as a platform to discover and develop more talents that will represent the senior team in the future.
The championship is expected to feature some of the best U-20 teams from the West African region, with qualification for the African tournament serving as the ultimate target for all participating nations.
