LAGOS, Nigeria(VOICE OF NAIJA)- Nigerian comedian Bright Okpocha, popularly known as Basketmouth, has honoured his late parents, brother, Sound Sultan and filmmaker Kayode Peters in an emotional tribute, saying their love, memories and impact will remain with him forever.
The entertainer shared the message on social media, during a comedy event in the U.S. in which he took a swipe at the Nigerian government.
In the clip, Basketmouth joked that if he had spent the 27 years of his comedy career selling drugs or pursuing politics instead of comedy, he might have become Nigeria’s president by now.
Despite the humour in the video, his caption struck a deeply personal tone as he reflected on the loved ones who are no longer with him.

“REST IN PEACE to the ones I hold closest to my heart: my parents, my eldest brother, Ogologo (Ifeanyi), Sound Sultan, and Kayode Peters. You may be gone, but your love, memories, and impact will stay with me forever,” he wrote.
Kayode Peters, a respected Nigerian filmmaker, theatre producer and director, died in Canada in June 2025.
He was widely known for his role as Koko in the hit TV series ‘Flatmates’, which starred Basketmouth and also featured cameo appearances by the late Sound Sultan.
He was laid to rest on August 2 at the McKersie & Early House Funeral Home before his burial at Milton Evergreen Cemetery in Ontario.
Basketmouth also remembered his longtime friend and music star Sound Sultan, who died on July 11, 2021, after battling Angioimmunoblastic T-cell lymphoma, a rare form of cancer.
The tribute has drawn reactions from fans and colleagues, many of whom joined Basketmouth in celebrating the lives and legacies of those he remembered.
