ENUGU, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)- The Nigerian military has confirmed the death of an Army officer, Lieutenant F.A. Isaac, during the operation that rescued 44 abducted pupils and teachers from the Old Oyo National Park in Oyo State.
Military sources disclosed that the officer was killed in the line of duty while leading troops involved in the coordinated rescue mission carried out on July 10, bringing an end to the victims’ days in captivity.
According to the sources, Lieutenant Isaac sustained fatal injuries during the operation and was buried the same day in line with military tradition.
The rescue mission involved a joint operation by security agencies, which successfully secured the release of the abducted pupils and teachers after an intensive search in the Old Oyo National Park axis.

Governor Seyi Makinde had earlier disclosed that the military suffered a casualty during the operation but did not reveal the identity of the fallen officer.
Military sources have now identified the deceased as Lieutenant Isaac, describing him as one of the officers at the forefront of the rescue effort when he paid the supreme price.
The victims were abducted in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State on or about June 6, 2026, before they were eventually rescued by security operatives.
