LAGOS, Nigeria(VOICE OF NAIJA)- Nigerian comedian and skit maker Taaooma has opened up about her creative process, revealing that everyday experiences, especially those involving African parents, remain a major source of inspiration for her content.
Speaking on the sidelines of the United States Mission in Nigeria’s 250th Independence Day celebration in Lagos, Taaooma admitted that she sometimes runs out of ideas but finds ways to refresh her creativity.
“It’s not like I don’t run out of ideas, but I obviously recoup and rejuvenate,” she said.
The content creator explained that she draws inspiration from her mother and everyday African parents as their attitudes often provide the concept behind many of her popular skits.
“One of the primary sources of my thoughts is my mother and everyday African parents, what they do and how they do things,” she revealed.
According to Taaooma, many ordinary family moments contain humour that can be transformed into relatable comedy.

“I just take the ideas and put my own spice on them. If you sit down and think about the things your mum does, there are so many funny and crazy things,” Taaooma added.
Beyond finding inspiration from daily life, Taaooma stated that she is careful about the type of content she consumes, noting that what creators watch can influence their creativity.
“I don’t just consume any kind of content. I consume things that I know will inspire me, things that are good for my brain, not just brainwash content,” she noted.
She also revealed that motherhood has changed the way she approaches her craft, with many of her recent portrayals coming from real-life experiences.
“There are so many things that I’m doing now. I’m doing them for real, for real,” she explained.
Taaooma also shared the surprising story behind Quadri, one of her most recognized characters, revealing that the role was never designed to become a major part of her comedy.

“Quadri was actually a waka-pass role. It was never meant to stay. I think I created the character for an advert or maybe I just needed another neutral character. When I did it, I realised people liked it and I said, ‘Okay,’” she disclosed.
Describing the character, Taaooma said Quadri represents a typical Ilorin boy known for his bold and outspoken personality.
“Quadri is just a regular Ilorin boy. They’re very rebellious. They can insult you. They don’t take nonsense. That’s just the Quadri character. Everybody has a Quadri character in their life,” she added.
Although her comedy often reflects different Nigerian identities and cultures, Taaooma said she does not deliberately create characters based on ethnic or regional representation.
“Even if I am intentional about putting Nigeria on the map with my content, I don’t think that part has been very intentional. I don’t sit down and say, ‘Let me pick a character from this region or that region.’ I just do it according to how it comes,” she said.
Through her unique blend of family humour, cultural observations and personal experiences, Taaooma continues to build characters that resonate with audiences across Nigeria and beyond.
