LAGOS, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA) – Nigeria’s U20 men’s team, the Flying Eagles will depart for Côte d’Ivoire on July 20 to continue preparations for the 2026 WAFU B U-20 Championship, voiceofnaija.ng reports.
The U20 squad will complete the final phase of training in Abidjan before the regional tournament begins on July 26, officials confirmed Thursday.
The tournament serves as the qualifying competition for the 2027 CAF U-20 Africa Cup of Nations across Africa.
Six nations alongside the hosts Côte d’Ivoire are set to participate in the tournament.
Nigeria, Ghana, Burkina Faso, Togo, Benin Republic, and Niger Republic will join the hosts to trade tackles this year.
The West African Football Union Zone B will also conduct the tournament draw shortly before the championship officially gets underway in Abidjan.
The competition will run from July 26 until August 9, determining Zone B representatives for the 2027 continental championship tournament.
Nigeria’s Flying Eagles have been training in Abuja under head coach Abdu Maikaba, intensifying preparations ahead of the regional competition.
The Flying Eagles claimed their first WAFU B U-20 title in 2024 after defeating Ghana 2-1 in the championship final match.
That memorable victory also secured Nigeria’s qualification for the CAF U-20 Africa Cup of Nations, highlighting the tournament’s continental significance greatly.
Earlier this week, former Super Eagles star Ahmed Musa also donated 20 million naira to motivate the squad ahead of the tournament.
