LAGOS, Nigeria(VOICE OF NAIJA)- Nollywood actress Destiny Etiko has revealed that Nigerians have donated N13.1 million towards the treatment of her colleague Cynthia Anijekwu, who is battling cancer for the second time and appealed for public help.
Etiko had earlier pleaded to the public for financial assistance after sharing a video where Cynthia opened up about her battle with the disease and the growing cost of her medical care.
In the emotional video, Cynthia revealed that she was first diagnosed with cancer in 2023 and underwent surgery followed by chemotherapy.
However, she said the illness returned and later spread to her bones, requiring more expensive treatment.
She explained that she has been frequently admitted to the hospital and currently spends over N600,000 monthly on treatment, while doctors have recommended radiation therapy and another surgery.
“I have cancer, 2023. And I did my surgery. I took chemo. But later, it came back again, and I’ve been in and out of the hospital. The recent check-up results showed that it has reached my bone. And the treatment now is higher. I spend 600 and something a month now. And it’s not easy,” Cynthia said.
The actress also made an emotional appeal to Nigerians, saying she needed support to continue her treatment.
“Please, I need to live. I need to survive. I’m asking Nigerians to please help me. Anyone that can help, please, I need help. Your one Naira, your two Naira can add up to something reasonable for me to take the proper treatment for this cancer. I’m begging you, please help me,” she pleaded.

Following the appeal, Destiny Etiko announced that Nigerians had contributed N13.1 million out of the N20 million target needed for Cynthia’s treatment.
The actress expressed gratitude to those who supported the campaign, saying she was surprised by the level of kindness shown towards her colleague.
“You all contributed N13.1 million out of the 20m. It’s a lot, and she is overwhelmed with joy. She is super grateful and in shock. God bless y’all,” Etiko wrote.
She added, “At least this will go a long way to help. Honestly, I never expected this massive love y’all showered on her. All I can say is thank you, Jesus. And thanks to all my followers.”
The actress maintained that the donations will help offset the expensive medical treatments as Cynthia continues her fight against the illness.
