LAGOS, Nigeria(VOICE OF NAIJA)- Veteran Afrobeats singer Brymo has reignited his long-running feud with Grammy-winning artist Burna Boy, after claiming that his Grammy Award was not earned solely on merit.
During a recent episode of the NotJustOk podcast, Brymo made the allegations while responding to Burna Boy’s 2023 freestyle diss, where the singer referenced him with the line, “Hustle make you no fall off like Brymo.”
Rather than replying through music, Brymo said he had no interest in mentioning Burna Boy in any of his songs, insisting that the singer was not important enough to receive that attention.
“I told him your name no go ever appear for my song. You’re not that important. Who’s your mate? You won a Grammy, and so what? It was bought now,” Brymo said.
The “Oleku” crooner also questioned Burna Boy’s abilities as a performer and songwriter, challenging the quality of his artistry.

“Can you perform, can you write, can you sing? I don’t care what you belong to,” the singer stated.
The “Down” hitmaker also claimed he was once asked to pay $10,000 for a BET Awards nomination, suggesting that awards can be bought.
“I’ve been told to pay $10,000 for a BET Awards before,” he alleged.
Brymo’s latest comments are linked to a disagreement that began in 2023 when he criticized Burna Boy, Davido, Wizkid and Rema, accusing younger Nigerian artists of borrowing heavily from older musicians without properly acknowledging their influence.

At the time, Brymo also argued that “Afrobeat” was not a genre but a musical style, claiming that the creation of “Afrobeats” changed the meaning associated with the legacy of Fela Kuti.
While the other artists did not respond publicly, Burna Boy later appeared to address Brymo’s comments through his freestyle, which included the line targeting the veteran singer.
Brymo revisited the issue in 2024, saying he was surprised that an artist of Burna Boy’s stature responded to the controversy that way.
He also criticised the singer’s decision to perform the freestyle publicly, describing the move as immature.
