LAGOS, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA) – The Atlas Lions of Morocco have eliminated Co-hosts Canada in the FIFA World Cup 2026 round of 32 with a 3-0 thrashing at the Houston Stadium.
Canada outplayed Morocco in the first half testing goalkeeper Yassine Bounou twice 10 minutes into the game.
Morocco’s Ismael Sabari got injured in the 22nd minute and this reduced the North Africans attacking quality up front.
Despite being destabilized by the injury, the North Africans held firm to keep the score line 0-0 at half time.

Five minutes into the second half, the Atlas Lions roared to life as Ounahi scored the opener.
Achraf Hakimi sent his free kick to Ounahi who hit a first time shot from the edge of the box.
The strike which whistled past everyone in the box marked the Girona man’s 10th goal for his country.
Morocco extended their lead in the 82nd minute and that man Ounahi popped up again.
Brahim Diaz skinned his opponent before sending a simple pass to the midfielder.
Ounahi made no mistake as he rifled the ball into the top right corner beyond the goalkeeper’s reach.
Soufiane Rahimi compounded the misery for Canada as he slotted the ball into the net following Diaz’s well weighted pass.
The Atlas Lions will now take on the winner between France and Paraguay in the Quarter finals.
