LAGOS, Nigeria(VOICE OF NAIJA)- Nollywood actress Adunni Ade has secured a legal victory against Google after a Lagos High Court ruled in her favour over online publications that falsely linked her romantically to former Kogi senator Dino Melaye.
The actress shared the news on Instagram alongside a copy of the court judgment, describing the ruling as proof that some battles are best resolved through the legal system.
“Adunni Ade Vs Google. Not every war requires a response. Some require a courtroom. Unto the next,” the actress wrote.
Court documents show that Justice I.O. Harrison of the Lagos High Court delivered the judgment on July 9, 2025, awarding Ade ₦30 million in general damages.

The court also ordered Google to remove the disputed publications from its platforms, including Google Search and YouTube.
The legal dispute began after the actress filed a suit against Google and Meta on July 11, 2024, seeking ₦100 million in damages over articles she described as false and damaging to her reputation.
The case centred on two online stories that linked Ade to Melaye.
She argued that the publications contained false claims, violated her constitutional right to privacy and caused her emotional and psychological distress.
During the proceedings, Ade later withdrew her case against Meta after the company raised a preliminary objection.
The court subsequently struck out the matter against Meta, leaving Google as the remaining defendant.

In its decision, the court held that the issue went beyond the existence of the articles, finding that the use of Ade’s name and photograph alongside the disputed reports amounted to a violation of her rights.
The judgment directed Google to remove the articles and delete every reference connecting the actress’s name and image to the publications across its platforms.
“It is common knowledge that when a basic right is violated, there is no need for additional proof. The Court will accordingly give the Applicant N30,000,000.00 (thirty million naira) in general damages,” Ade stated.
The latest judgment adds to another legal success for the actress. Only a few months earlier, the Lagos High Court awarded her ₦20 million in damages in a separate privacy case involving a Nigerian news platform and a writer over a report that listed her among actresses allegedly linked to Dino Melaye.
The ruling marks another significant legal victory for Ade as she continues to challenge online publications she says have damaged her reputation.
