LAGOS, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA) – Sunshine Stars Football Club of Akure has declared one of it’s players David Igoche Absent Without Leave (AWOL), Voice of Naija – VONa Communications reports.
In a statement released by the club’s media officer Isaac Afolabi, the Owena Whales revealed that the player failed to report for duty more than two weeks after the team’s resumption for pre-season training and has neither obtained official leave nor communicated any valid reason for his absence.
Meanwhile, the rest of the squad remains in Akure, actively preparing for the forthcoming 2026/27 Nigeria National League (NNL) season and efforts to get to him proved abortive.
Also speaking in the statement, the Club Manager, Mr. Gabriel Aborowa and the Sunshine Stars FC board cautioned football clubs, agents, and other stakeholders against engaging the player in any transfer negotiations without the express approval of the club.
The statement further emphasized that David Igoche remains a contracted player of Sunshine Stars FC and continues to receive his contractual entitlement.
Consequently, any attempt to secure his services without the club’s authorization will be considered a breach of contractual obligations and may result in legal action.
